Lunch at a Classy Pub??
Off the Hook Dockside Pub
1600 Champlain Ave
Dress Code: No
Chain or Independent: Indy
I first noticed this new restaurant when driving to my old job. Everyday, I watched it come together and once the sign was up, I knew I had to go. A new seafood restaurant, you say? I’m in! From the outside it looks like your typical pub, but looks are deceiving. When we walked in, we were shocked. No fish nets? No funny pictures of sea creatures? No boats? No fishing rods? Hmmm, something told me this was not your typical cheeseball seafood place. The floor was dark hardwood, as were all of the tables and bar seating. The booths and lounge area were all black leather. There was a large fishing tank, large TVs, an oyster bar and a beautiful fire place.
Well, everything looks fine and dandy, let’s check out the menu. Lobster, crab, oysters, scallops and shrimp graced every page of the menu. We were there for lunch, but I already knew I had to return for a dinner feast. I went with the Garlic Shrimp Wrap with fries, because I was feeling a lil bad ass. My mom went with the Lobster Roll and the fries, because when one person orders fries, you just can’t resist. The server was very casual and funny, he promptly greeted and seated us when we arrived. He also brought us fresh, warm bread after taking our drink order. It’s always a nice touch when you’re starving!!
I did have an awkward moment. After bringing our food, he came back and caught me taking pictures of the food. He was confused, I was embarrassed and my mom thought it was hilarious. I might as well have been vlogging at that point. I wondered if the service would change, but it remained the same.
Back to the food. My mom’s sandwich, on a fresh Parisian roll, looked like a salmon sandwich, but after a few bites she was happily surprised with large chunks of lobster and a slightly spicy mayo. My wrap had romaine lettuce, avocado, diced tomato, garlic shrimps and a honey/jalapeno aioli. It was delicious, the veggies were cold and shrimp were warm and garlicky. That means it was made fresh and not premade. This is going well. Now to the fries. When feeling bad ass and ordering fries instead of salad, they better be worth it....and they were. Ever had fries from a chip truck? Those very fries are what graced my plate. Needless to say, we did not need a doggy bag!
Until next time!
